In spite of the frantic efforts on the part of Wilsie, the car kept on at an ever-increasing speed, and jumped the switch at Broadway, continuing in a diagonal direction across the street. Abrahams was painfully cut about the face in his struggles with the passengers. Several other men in the car kept their heads and came to his aid. Conductor Harry Abrahams stood in the doorway, fighting desperately to prevent the passengers from leaping to death in the street. Instantly the exits were blocked with screaming women and fighting men. Springing to his feet, the unknown passenger shouted that the car was running away. In the meantime the inevitable “man in the crowd” who starts the panic had done his work. I Am Legend, by Richard Matheson, is a 1954 horror fiction novel. My version began with George's story in the modern day, which may have made the second half feel a bit more difficult to read. It certainly is a novel of two halves in this respect - the contemporary half is very readable and fast paced, while the half set in the Renaissance is much more fluid, meta and experimental in style.Īs it was published in two versions which alternated the order of the sections, it could provide two entirely different reading experiences. This novel explores some big themes - identity, grief, sexuality, amongst others, all through two figures, one teenager in contemporary times and one in Renaissance England. It is a truly unique and highly experimental novel, and it is very easy to see where the Seasonal quartet came from. I adore Ali Smith's Seasonal Quartet, as well as Girl Meets Boy, and she's one of my all time favourite authors but somehow I'd never read her Women's Prize winning novel, so this was the book on the backlist of Women's Prize winner's that I was most excited about. The first is that Mezrich's primary source is Eduardo Saverin, so it is understandable that events are slanted toward his point-of-view (a fact brought out publicly by Mark Zuckerberg, who refused to cooperate with Mezrich). There are two notable things about the book, which is allegedly the distillation of countless interviews put into narrative form. The source material for The Social Network is Ben Mezrich's The Accidental Billionaires. You don't have to be a Facebook member (I am not) to enjoy what this movie is offering. The Social Network is rich with food for thought but the reason it captures the viewer's interest for more than two hours is because its story of friendship and betrayal is as old as traditional society and is presented with tremendous skill. The film, which is a joint product of respected director David Fincher and equally respected screenwriter Aaron Sorkin, accomplishes its multiple goals: create a gallery of fascinating, fully realized characters chronicle key events in the development and growth of today's most influential social networking site, Facebook and explore the blurred lines that exist in the amorphous on-line environment where concepts like intellectual property are involved. The Social Network shows that, when pet projects are at issue, nerds can get as nasty and dirty as the most skilled backstabbers and double-dealers. Website development as a blood sport - that's what it comes down to. Throughout this trilogy, Alexa struggles with embracing her true identity and truly allowing herself to be happy. Now, this won’t be a long review because it’s a short book and there’s not too much for me to unpick other than how much I enjoyed it. What I found special about this book was that it manages to remind me of all of these whilst remaining entirely original. It’s the perfect storm of everything I love: anime, manga, Asian-inspired fantasy novels, tv shows … the list really does go on. Unsouled was a book that gripped me right from the start reader, I read this book voraciously in two sittings whilst on my honeymoon. Sacred artists follow a thousand Paths to power, using their souls to control the forces of the natural world. There's some of this:Īnd some of this, as our girl puts two and two together:Ĭan't say I blame her really, after all she's been through. Pearson, but I must say, my experience both times left me like this:Īnd I have every intention of picking up the Jenna Fox Chronicles after such an awesome time with this series, but you know how it is.Īnyway, this book picks up right where we left off in The Kiss of Deception. So, this is only my second book by Mary E. I'm going to tiptoe my way into the next book. I really hope things end up being okay with everyone in the last book. I still love Eden because of things and just so many others. I'm really hoping the author is going somewhere cool with this!Īnd some new characters I fell in love with, mostly Aster, she was a precious little girl. Kaden is trying to keep Lia safe from the Komizar < - big jerk.Īnd we get to find out all kinds of little secrets about Lia. But ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, I'm really hoping she got her revenge. I mean there as one part where she had a moment but it was to be expected. That ending =( I mean there was one good part that probably will be one of those, we were kidding moments, but there was a really sad part and I don't like it. Well, first off this love triangle thing needs to stop because it's getting on my nerves but I'm hoping it has fizzled out for the last book. It really has all the elements of a classic in the making.
